haha yay!! the mid term break is here... haha but it sort of wun seem like a break... haha aims for this one week? haha 1/finish up the classification of FRGs and start on crystallographic roots... 2/catch up on field theory... 3/catch up on lebesgue integral... ok shall not be too ambitous... only got 6 days so i think 3 aims are sufficient... haha...scheduled mid term talk on the 4th march at CRA 1515 to 1600h... had to change the timing a bit cos forgot that hanmao booked the 2pm slot in CRB... haha... ok cool... that means i'll get to listen to bothhis and elizabeth's talks... haha terence has not scheduled his talk yet... hmmm think he'll only go look for prof ma after he finishes typing his report... haha... oh ya and my examiner is prof lee!! haha **phew!!**
met tkm yesterday... waaah he had alot of things to add to my report... hmmm i think my std of writing report is really not there yet... haha but well it's only my second report rite... haha... wuz in his office like close to 2 hours... haha... anyway wuz supposed to go for rj band concert last nite... but then last min gotta re-edit my report cos my proof had some logical errors... haha i'm so silly... haha
anyway today's gonna be pretty much uneventful... haha... wat can i say... goatta accept the fact that life's liddat for now la... need to keep up with stuff and all if i really wanna grab hold of my 2u honours deg... hahaha...
oh watched tennis last night... t johansson bt stepanek... haha the henman match with too late so i din watch... but i just check the score... how unlucky.. he lost to ancic... 7-6 7-6
both tie breakers... first one to 5 second one to 4... haha man... that's really unlucky... haha well... now federer plays ancic and johansson plays ljubicic well i'm rooting for a johansson ancic finals... haha but i think it will be the exact opposite... haha
anyway had nothing better to do this morning so i surfed the tim henman web page... haha found out u can buy posters... haha wuz sooo tempted to... 17 bucks including shipping... haha not that bad... then i found some csi stuff i wanted too... cd soundtrack... mug... and posters!! haha put them into the shopping cart and when i wuz checking out... i realised when i clicked on countries... only the us with there... so couldnt buy lor... so sad... haha but at least save money la... haha must make it a point to go down to hmv one of these days... havent been down in AGES... haha
hmmm has it ever made u wonder y there's this sudden fasination with being fit these days... haha girls wanna shed pounds lose dress sizes and guys wanna bulk up build muscle... haha man the industry's booming and i think it here to stay for quite a while... where once u would walk in to gnc and seee more vitamin and minerals... now it's stocked with boxes and boxes of myoplex tub of protein power and weird supplements that claim to help u burn fat more easily... haha it's a scary generation... haha well... haha i suppose in some sense it is a good thing... haha but if u think abt it... haha u really need to know the reasons y pple are working out more these days... haha sure they wanna be healthier... that's def not the primary reason... haha the real cold hard truth... haha vanity... haha we're a generation build upon vanity... and health has now become sort of a cover up to feed our narcissistic tendencies... hahaha face it man we're all vain... to some extend or another... but more so now then ever... haha which MAY not be a very bad thing dun get me wrong...
anywayz... i really need to think abt wat to do during my holidays in may and june... haha i originally had 2 plans... to take on aliance francaise courses in french and make sure by next year i am ready to take the DALF... haha and to either get coaching in badminton or tennis... haha but u see... they all need money and where am i gonna get the cash from? hahaa toto i guess... haha so if u every have a dream abt some numbers... pls tell me... haha... for now... it's time to figure out wat to go and grab to eat... haha ciao...

Happy Belated Lunar New Year to all!! hahasomehow I've been rather distracted of late... well it's not too late to get back on track... someone wuz asking me y i wanted to do masters... well... actually i wanna do masters as a test for myself... to gauge whether i have the potential to do a phd in math... so yeah... i guess that is the main reason... the thing is... i'm really starting to believe that i have missed out alot during my formative years from primary school to jc...
after getting to know hanmao a leeeetle bit better... hmmm i can safely say that the amount of exposure u get when ur in the INTERNATIONAL math olympiad training team makes a big difference to ur mental development in later life... of course with respect to mathematical thinking... it's sort of a mathematical maturity that is carefully and strictly enforced when young that prevents certain negative or detrimental habits, fallacious or ridiculous logic, as well as the midset that math is mechanical, from developing. I mean even with terence u can see the difference, and he wuz only in the singapore comps... so seriously, if i ever haf a child i will push him or her into the olympiads as early as possible... and this goes beyond math... in all areas as well be it the arts, sports or sciences, a head start with working with subjects that are percieved to be beyond the scope of the normal kid goes a long way in bring out the full potential in a child... many western educators have often scorned at the way we asians place so much emphasis on education to the extent that there is usually little time left for a child to do anything else... well... actually... on hindsight now as a young adult... i regret not making full use of my potential when i was young... sometimes i wonder wat kind of mind i would possess if things were different... if i was more motivated... but well...
anyway like i promised... here's DUMMIT!! hahaha
to anyone seriously interested in learning about abstract algebra... i highly recommend this book... u can borow it from me if u want... haha it's pretty much self contained up to i would say perhaps masters level of study... and for those who think that algebra is just x+y=z... well... essentially it is... but with far greater complications than u would imagine... haha...
it's 3 am in the morning and i am still up typing this... haha well.. all thanks to rushing my honours project last night that i am still wide awake now... hahaha well my mid term talk shld cover everything up to the classification of the groups... with the 20 step proof of the classification left for my juicy final talk... that is my objective... hahaha
wat a boring blog... and wat a bloody hot nite it is tonight... roon told me to do 150 squats today... initially i tot it wuz nothing... but the last 50 i really had to grit my teeth and carry on... i've heard abt the power of squats but i've never tot it would be sooo tiring... well hope i can walk properly tmr... haha visiting aunt jacqui for lunch tmr.... haha okie... shld be turning in now... hahaha otherwise i'll be sleeping in ngoh hiang tmr... hahaha

for the record... let's just say i really dun like chinese new year... haha seriously... the lure of ang baos doesnt make it any better too... haha but this year... i finally haf an excuse to be anti social and not interact with too many pple liao... haha cos i told myself that i would do my honours project during the hols so that i can finish up at least chapter 1 and say 5 sections of chapter 2... haha...
crazy rite? haha... the other night... i wuz reading field theory (which i am soooo dead for this sem...) and suddenly i felt this rapid tightening of some muscle along the front of my forehead... sort of like a cramp... like a brain cramp if u would... a headache... haha... man... it wuz irritating... i couldn't concentrate after that so i had no choice but to sleep... man this is probably the first time in my life that math has done this to me... haha incidentally the day after, at night, while reading (yes again) field notes... it started to come back again... but somehow did not present itself in full force this time... haha... too stressed?
oh i forgot to say!! haha i finally got my DUMMIT! haha will take a photo of it soon... haha yay!! now i can conquer all my algebra... haha...
okie... here's a nice pic... we took at the gerri cum shue bdae dinner... haha... at spageddies... haha i just realised i haf a very large nose... haha ok shall squeeze it now... hahaha in hopes of it becoming smaller... haha...
hmmm anyway yeah dinner there wuz good but i wuz sort of wondering if it made more sense to eat at munchie monkeys now since well... they are sorta being aided by spageddies... haha i mean the pasta tasted the same and at muchie monkeys it's 1/3 the price... haha...
oh oh and here is the highlight of the evening... a stroke of genius by yours truely... hahahaha ok fine it wuz a plagerized idea so i better quote my sources... haha mahjong cake from prima deli... haha of which of jamie provided both the inspiration and information... haha
cool rite? haha like i sed... probably the first and last time i bought a cake simply for the exterior... but hey the interior tasted quite ok rite? hahaha...
wah... tmr i shld be going for rwinds prac... i dunno any flautists... my batch ones are either in medicine or overseas and wenyang is conducting... juniors are all overseas unless of course ruimin and shiqi play... which i really doubt... so i dunno who will be there... haha... nvm give it a shot.. need a break from finite reflection groups anyways... haha... hmmm...
hmmm... nowadays... i dun see terence that often liao... like maybe once a week only... ya... haha see hanmao more often... haha which makes me wonder how come i always hang arnd smart pple... haha but yeah i've finally learnt to accept not being as smart anymore la... haha i think wat pple say abt having to work doubly hard cos ur not half as intelligent is really really stoopid... i think we should just accept who we are la... what really is the purpose of pushing urself so hard just to be on par with people who are naturally gifted... haha i'm not saying we should not dream the impossible and aim for seemingly unreachable goals... what i am trying to say is that we shld not compare... we shld just do things at our own pace regardless of how others are doing... only then can we find the optimal (i just haf to say this... YES YES I FINALLY UNDERSTAND THAT THERE EXISTS OPTIMAL SOLUTIONS THAT ARE NOT BASICS SOLUTIONS EVEN THOUGH WE CAN ALWAYS FIND OPTIMAL SOLUTIONS AT EXTREME POINTS!!) path to success... so ya... now i'm accepting fate as it is... haha i admit i'm not half as brilliant... and i dun expect others to think i am... haha so ya... sue me if i'm slow... hahahha... oh another note... haha i found out that hanmao wants to do phd after he serves his bond... haha so cool... in case i wanna do also then at least got someone to do with... haha cos he intends to go US... and i hope i wun hafta stay in singapore to do my phd too... hahaha...
anyway... enuff for now i guess... haha time for me to eat my quarter pounder... haha must remember to wake up early to book courts... haha okie... signing off liao... haha take care!!
